a bit about me...
I am currently in my final year as an Anthropology major at the University of Cincinnati, also pursuing a minor in Environmental Analysis and Policy. My academic interests are very broad but I am particularly interested in the relationship between humans and their natural environment and how policy, regulation, and grassroots efforts can combine to improve the health of each along with leading to greater understanding of their interactive relationship. I find issues surrounding agriculture, health disparities and their causes, and the creation of sustainable urban communities to be of particular interest. Following my graduation in the spring I hope to eventually pursue a graduate degree, most likely in Anthropology as well.
Outside of the classroom, I have participated in various student organizations on campus. I am involved with the McMicken Ambassadors, the University Honors Program, the sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma, the Yoga Club, the Mountaineering Club, and a girls health and fitness group called CHAARG. Off of UC's campus, I have worked as an intern for Green Umbrella (Cincinnati's Sustainability Alliance). If you explore my page you can learn more about my participation and involvement in these various groups.
In my free time I love to be outside as much as possible. I love to run, hike, climb, bike, swim, and camp during the summer and ski during the winter. I also regularly practice yoga and recently completed a 200 hour training program to become a registered teacher. I never really feel like my day is complete until I have been active. Living a healthy, active lifestyle is a very important aspect of life for me. I also love to travel both within the United States and internationally. I have been lucky enough to get to spend time out west and also studying abroad during my time in college. Check out my travels page for more details on my trips! While I tend to go, go, go I also value my few moments of down time and love to read. A few of my favorite books are The Dharma Bums by Jack Kerouac, The Razor's Edge by Somerset Maugham, and Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer. I also like to take some of my free time to educate myself on local, national and global issues by reading The New York Times, listening to NPR, and watching interesting documentaries (a few of my favorites are Food Inc. and Urbanized). This is just a brief overview and it's hard to cram a personality into a paragraph so please explore my site to learn more about me, my interests, and my experiences.
